Source Based Essay

Due to fast growth in technology there have been innovations made as a way of making work faster, easier and save time and energy. Some of these ways include the invention of transportation such as airplanes, cars, buses, trains and lorries which makes transportation faster, easier and more accessible. The use of chimneys in factories as a means of removing combustion materials that end up in the atmosphere . All these inventions have one thing in common, they emit carbon which is a harmful greenhouse gas that when emitted into the atmosphere could cause Climate Changes to occur. Climate Change can be defined as the long term alteration of temperature and weather pattern in a particular region. This can lead to lots of problems such as increased flooding, increased rainfall, rising of sea levels and so on.  There have been questions asked on whether  “Climate Change is real or fake  ” this question has been  influenced socially( with people protesting against the continuous use of carbon) and politically( lawmakers passing laws that would help limit Climate change and various countries reaching agreements.)  with an aim of creating awareness against Climate Change. There are various ways to limit Climate Change, some of these ways include recycling and switching to renewable forms of energy such as wind, solar, chemical and so on.

According to the National Geographic Society Climate Change leads to the following Loss of Biodiversity, Pollution and resource waste. The Author who is Tyson Brown from the National Geographic Society tells about climate change and its effects saying “The burning of fossil fuels would trap the heats in the sun rays therefore causing the increase in temperature and also would change the pattern of rainfall or snowfall in a particular area”. The author’s audience is the world because he is trying to reduce and create awareness against the burning of fossil fuels by listing the negative effects. The writer expresses a big concern towards climate change identifying it as the primary cause of the melting of ice sheets and glaciers and natural disasters saying “Climate change has also been connected with other damaging weather events such as hurricanes , flooding ,downpours and winter storms”. The author identifies human influence as the reason climate change occurs at a faster rate. The author’s purpose is to educate people on the negative effects of climate change. The author uses the internet as a medium to pass across the information and the author goes straight to the point on the effects of climate change. This article is essential to my topic because this is a well detailed and explained article that helps you understand about global warming and climate change and also has examples of effects caused by global warming.

According to James Chikwiza climate change in South Africa leads to a low carbon economy and also leads to the following  “an increase in air temperature of 1°C-3°C over the next three to five decades ,an expected increase in evatranspiration by 5% – 15% by 2050 in Southern Africa, with concerns for available water resources in the country ,challenges for agricultural production in both the summer and winter rainfall areas by mid-century, with particular concern for the maintenance of rural livelihoods ,changes in the territorial range and prevalence of a variety of vector-borne diseases such as malaria and schistosomiasis (bilharzia), as well as a potential increase in the spread of food- and water-borne diseases ,an increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events such as flooding and wild fire, with heightened requirements for effective disaster”. The author also emphasizes on the need for green transport which is transportation that doesn’t include the use of carbon or fossil fuels. The author calls for a decrease in the use of rural transports in both urban and rural areas. The author is James Chikwiza is against climate change and says that climate change releases lots of greenhouse gases which comes from factories and mining hubs and also the author says that South Africa is vulnerable to natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes , and also extreme events that can affect agricultural productivity and diseases. The author’s purpose is to educate people about climate change and to also let people know the importance of using green transport rather than the use of rural transportation. According to the author this method would lead to lot of benefits such as “reducing the input costs and transport costs to the markets, increasing and expanding the market size for farmers, facilitating increased trade flows between areas, regions and countries”. The author uses the internet as the medium to pass across this information because it is an easier form of communication. The article is essential because it lets the reader know about a newly discovered alternative to the use of fossil fuels which is the use of green transportation. This back up my claim and also provides evidence on the negative effects of climate change.

According to the article Decade of the battery: SUSTAINABLE BATTERIES REPRESENT THE BEST PROSPECT FOR MEETING PARIS CLIMATE GOALS “Advances in the production, use and reuse of batteries mean that the technology could become the most significant intervention to keep global warming within the limits set by the Paris Agreement on climate  change between now and 2030”. This is an important way to limit climate change because the use of batteries is carbon-free and according to the article would help create jobs, improve the United States economy, create electricity for people and lead to expansion of mining and minerals extraction. The article also talks about the disadvantages of switching to batteries such as risks child labor and unsafe working conditions. The author believes that this can be overturned by increased investment of stakeholders to improve working and living conditions of workers. The author is a publisher at the State News Service. The author is against Climate Change and believes the use of Batteries can help to get to the Limits set by the Paris agreement on Climate Change and create electricity to about 600 million people. The author’s purpose if to inform the world about the importance of switching to the use of batteries not just in the limiting of Climate Change but also in the boosting of the economy by creating more jobs. The author’s audience is the world and using the newspaper as his/her medium to pass across information. This article is essential to my topic because it explains the advantages of switching to the use of batteries in the limiting of Climate Change.

The switching to other forms of energy such as Solar energy and hydrogen fuels can also limit Climate Change. According to the article “Renewables: Seawater Converted to Hydrogen Fuel” by Chemical Industry Digest “Hydrogen is an appealing option for fuel because it doesn’t emit  carbondioxide” and  “Burning hydrogen produces only water and can ease worsening Climate Change problems”. The author who is Hongile Dai is against climate change and has proposed an invention that would help limit Climate Change which is the switching to hydrogen fuels. This method includes the process of “electrolysis” as way of separating water into hydrogen and oxygen. The author’s purpose is to inform the world about another newly discovered invention that would help limit Climate Change. The author’s audience is the world and he use a magazine as the medium to pass across his information. This article is essential to my topic because it describes another way of limiting Climate Change.

Climate Change is real and calls for more attention and action as explained in this draft. The negative effects of Climate Change such as natural disasters, diseases and rising sea levels would not just affect us but also our descendants if not taking seriously. New innovations and technology has invented ways to help limit Climate Change such as switching to the use of greener transportations examples electric buses and cars, switching to the use of batteries which don’t emit carbon and would create jobs and strengthen the economy and generate electricity and switching to the use of hydrogen fuel which can be used to generate solar power. The limiting of Climate Change also calls for a decline in the continuous use of fossil fuels which generate carbon into the atmosphere.
